Comparison and Analysis
Wabuska Geothermal Property - 70,000-gallon-a-day reverse osmosis facility
Evaporative Water Recovery Technology (EWRT)
Crystal Pure's Evaporative Water Recovery System generates pure (distilled) water using solar, geothermal or waste heat sources. The system can operate on very narrow temperature differentials with significantly lower operation and maintenance costs than comparable systems.
This current facility is operating at an estimated 60% of the designed output. Upon completion and upgrades to pump and plumbing loops, Crystal Pure will post updated perfomance data.

COMPARISON ANALYSIS
THE EWRT water making system produces pure water that has less than a 1 parts per million (PPM) of total dissolved solids in its water whereas in comparison the reverse osmosis system treating saltwater would have anywhere from 300 to 600 PPM of dissolved solids.
The EWRT water making system can produce pure water at the same volume from any quality source of water. The EWRT can accommodate industrial waste or treated municipal water.
Crystal Pure, LLC has built the prototype EWRT unit at the Wabuska geothermal property and produces the data which will back up the following assumptions and comparisons between the EWRT technology and the reverse osmosis technology.
A typical 70,000-gallon-a-day reverse osmosis facility with current power rates will produce a gallon of water at $0.01-$0.015. This translates to a cost of $3,267 and greater for an acre foot of water. These numbers are also calculated on a typical 10-year depreciation for equipment and operational cost.
The EWRT technology with its water-making equipment utilized to produce 70,000 gallons a day will produce a gallon of water for $0.0031 which translates to $1,034 per acre foot of water. Typically, water production cost will be lower upon greater temperature differentials in the input and condensing portion of its equipment. With more favorable normal conditions the EWRT water making system should produce an acres foot of water for around $750.
The EWRT device operates the best when associated with waste heat applications such as power plants, generator sets, cooling towers, etc. The EWRT making system in effect operates like a pre condenser to such facility.
Thus, the EWRT water making system has many benefits other than low-cost production of pure water.
